much as i disagree with the way the government blanket-rules us citizens, with a lot of ludicrous laws in the book, one has to concede that their methods have yielded results. good results.
singapore’s crime rates are among the lowest in the world, and a majority of these crimes committed are petty ones. murders, manslaughter, physical assault, sexual or other means of harassment are inarguably the lowest around our neighboring countries. and why is this so?
because our country has laws, and follows through with them. there are consequences to actions, and this has been instilled, almost as if the mentality is now inborn. i do not think that that in itself is wrong. i disagree with the way the government is harsh during occasions i deem it unnecessary, but i do believe that knowing this fundamental fact of life is something we have to learn sooner or later in life, simply because it’s the way the world spins, honey.
i stress here, that i do not think anti-conformity is a bad thing. i never had. but i believe that the stupidest thing is challenge an entire party all by your lonesome self, hiding behind a screen. there are other things you could spend your time on. and if you think you can make so much a better leader, then you have fun trying to build a nation from scratch.
they are the dominant party, because they’ve been voted for by a majority of the residing population here in singapore. if you thought a little into this, there’s got to be a reason why.
it seems the fad to challenge authority for the sake of it nowadays, and frankly, i’m getting pretty sick of reading all this crap in the news all the fucking time. it’s annoying that this is news worthy in the first place. you claim the authorities are exerting unnecessary pressure, and that the penal system is way too harsh on law offenders. maybe so. but everyone in singapore looks different from the citizens of iraq in some way. what is it again? right. singaporeans feel oh-so-much safer don’t they?
women do not worry about our husbands and their unprovoked violence that may be unleashed without warning, possibly mutilating, or killing us in the process. citizens do not have that fear of a street mugger, or a potential rapist lurking behind a dustbin or something. parents do not have the additional worry of their young lurking the streets in the middle of the night high on drugs, or just sneaking into a cinema and viewing something inappropriate. drivers do not drive with extra caution for fear of a drunk driver crashing into them when driving on the wrong side of the road. in case you haven’t noticed, these worries, fears and insecurities have been reduced because of the presence of the laws imposed on us. the laws which protect us. the laws we take for granted. the laws we, ironically, complain and whine about.
and to you, gopalan, and others like you, i’d like to say this:
if you don’t like what we have here, what we have been blessed with, this safe and conducive environment for the next generation (like us, thank you.) to be nurtured in, then don’t bother bleating senselessly on your blog. just immigrate and go the fuck away. you’re an utter disgrace and i’d truly be ashamed if you told your friends of different nationalities that you were originally from singapore.
if you disagree with our government enough to disrespect active, productive, constructive members of our society and bring them down one by one, i’m sure more than one person who actually knows whatever the fuck is going on will agree with me when i say that singapore does not need you as much as you think she does. in fact, many would unceremoniously by now be wishing you’d fuck off and die, just to stop being such an incredible nuisance and a pain in the ass to those who actually care about what becomes of this country and it’s citizens long after you’re gone.
just because, my non-friend, you have a handful of fans, maybe more, doesn’t make you right. everyone is entitled into their own morals, principles, opinions, perspectives, and voice. what you’re actively promoting, what’s you’ve been doing ceaselessly for the duration of your blogging life, is in fact, forcing your views in our faces, and honestly, i don’t think i’m the only one annoyed as hell by you. your credentials and sob-story doesn’t even matter anymore, because where PR comes into play, it’s where you fail. miserably.
i’m an active blog surfer, and i enjoy reading what everyone has to say about anything that anyone could have an opinion about. but you are by far the most egoistical, unnecessarily aggressive, rude, immature, loud-mouth, in-your-face blogger i’ve ever come across. and it grates me like a cheese shredder.
if you want a tip, i have but one word for you. have some fucking TACT please.
if there’s anything i think you should know, it’s this, gopalan. similar to the way you’re simply “exercising” your rights as a citizen, mr lee and his family are citizens and part of this country as well, and is given the exact same set of constitutional rights, and is simply using the system to his advantage, as everyone does. any man would be outraged by what you have to say to him, and why shouldn’t he have you prosecuted for slandering not only his name, but his family’s, as well as everything the man stands for? he’s probably as pissed of as you are. maybe even more so. and you’ve given him every single reason to be.
